W.R. Myers School recognizes the importance of graduation ceremonies and associated events in celebrating student achievement. This policy establishes clear criteria for student participation in the WR Myers Program (WRM) Grade 12 Banquet and Convocation Ceremonies, as well as eligibility for awards at the WRM Convocation.
This policy clarifies student eligibility for participation in both the WRM and Horizon Christian Program (HCP) convocation ceremonies, recognizing that students in WRM may enroll in HCP courses, and HCP students may take WRM courses.
Note: This policy does not apply to WR Myers Academic Awards, which are available to any student enrolled at WR Myers High School, provided they meet the criteria for each specific award.
Definitions
- WR Myers Program (WRM): The traditional high school program at WR Myers High School.
- Horizon Christian Program (HCP): The Christian-based program offered at WR Myers High School.
- Convocation Ceremony: The formal event where diplomas and school-designated awards are presented. This is distinct from the Grade 12 Banquet.
- Grade Twelve Banquet: A celebratory banquet where WRM Grade 12 students may invite guests for a formal meal to commemorate reaching Grade 12.
Eligibility for Participation in WRM Grade 12 Banquet
To participate in the grade 12 banquet, a student must:
- Be classified as a Grade 12 student by Alberta Education or be anticipated to meet all graduation requirements within the current school year
- Be enrolled in, with good academic standing, a minimum of 10 credits in each semester of Grade 12 or be on track to complete, with good academic standing, the courses required for a High School Diploma, Certificate of Achievement, or Certificate of Completion.
- Additional Requirement for HCP students: Students enrolled in the HCP program must plan to attend the WR Myers Program Convocation Ceremony to be eligible for the Grade 12 Banquet.
Eligibility for Participation in Convocation Ceremony
To participate in the convocation ceremony (WRM or HCP), a student must:
- Be currently enrolled in or have completed, with good academic standing, the courses required for a High School Diploma, Certificate of Achievement, or Certificate of Completion.
- Additional Requirement for HCP Convocation: To participate in the HCP convocation ceremony, a student must have been enrolled in the HCP program while attending WR Myers High School. This includes:
- Enrollment in courses scheduled and organized within the HCP framework.
- Enrollment requested by the student’s parents/guardians specifically for the HCP.
Eligibility for Awards at the WRM Convocation Ceremony (Including Valedictorian)
To be eligible for awards presented at the WRM convocation ceremony, a student must meet the following criteria:

Course Completion
- All courses used in calculating an award must have been taught by an in-person classroom teacher.

Course Location Requirements
- The student must have taken at least one of either Social Studies 30 or English 30 within WRM.
The student must have taken the majority of the 30-level Math or Science courses used to calculate the award within WRM.
